Great Horned Owls typically nest in trees such as cottonwood, juniper, beech, pine, and others. They usually adopt a nest that was built by another species, but they also use cavities in live trees, dead snags, deserted buildings, cliff ledges, and human-made platforms.

• The male provides the female and young with food. The young owls begin to leave the nest around 25-26 days after hatching. They are not able to fly well until at least 50 days of age. They continue to be fed by the parents for another 5 weeks after they leave the nest.

Common throughout Nevada, the Long-eared Owl likes to live in dense trees near grassland or pasture areas. These birds often roost in small communities in clumps of trees during the winter, and can be easier to spot this way. Long-eared Owls use abandoned nests built by other birds rather than building their own.

The large, orange-faced spotted wood-owl ( Strix seloputo) can be found in several distinct areas throughout Southeast Asia. A true owl, the spotted wood-owl lives in open forests or woodland habitats and can usually be found near water.
