An incandescent light bulb has a small thin wire with two bigger wires holding it up. This wire is called a filament. The filament is the part of the light bulb that produces light. Filaments in incandescent light bulbs are made of tungsten.

The black is the "hot" wire, the white is the neutral, and the copper is the ground. When you put a switch in a circuit you now have 6 wires - three coming in and three going out. Light bulbs have a very simple structure. At the base, they have two metal contacts, which connect to the ends of an electrical circuit. The metal contacts are attached to two stiff wires, which are attached to a thin metal filament. The filament sits in the middle of the bulb, held up by a glass mount.

Procedure: This is just like a series circuit i.e. all the components are connected in series. Just connect the Neutral wire directly to the light bulb and then connect the light bulb to the switch through middle wire. And then connect the live wire to the switch as shown in fig below.

But here's the catch: If you connect the circuit wires to the wrong terminals on an outlet, the outlet will still work but the polarity will be backward. When this happens, a lamp, for example, will have its bulb socket sleeve energized rather than the little tab inside the socket.Jun 8, 2021

Connect the white wires (neutral wires) from your fan and ceiling together. Connect the green wire to your household ground wire (copper/bare wire). Connect the black wires together. Connect the blue wires together or the blue wire to the black wire for lights.

Assuming you have a screw base (Edison base, medium base) you would use the line voltage wire (hot wire, usually black) and touch that to the side of the screw base. Then attach the neutral wire (usually white) to the dimple on the very bottom of the screw base.

• Connect the neutral wire -- the one with the ridge in its insulation -- to the silver socket terminal and the other wire to the brass socket terminal. Place the socket in the lamp, feeding the wire through the socket cap. Reinstall the socket's insulating sleeve and shell, pushing on the shell until it snaps in place.
